Multiple systemic atrophy

Multiple System Iatrophy is a rare neurological disorder in which the body's involuntary (autonomic) functions are impaired, including blood pressure, heart rate, bladder function, and digestion.

The disease is characterized by symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease, such as slowness of movements, muscle stiffness and balance problems.

Multiple system atrophy is a degenerative disease that develops in adults, especially in patients aged 50-70 years.

Treatment of the disease includes medication and lifestyle changes The condition progresses gradually and eventually leads to death
It is not known what causes the brain changes in multiple system atrophy Some scientists wonder whether the cause of the disease is hereditary or caused by some environmental toxin However, there is no evidence to support these theories

Multiple system iatrophy is associated with atrophy of parts of the brain (brain, basal ganglia, and brainstem). These parts of the brain regulate the internal functions of the body, digestion and movement

Evaluation of damaged brain tissue under a microscope revealed nerve cells (neurons) containing abnormal amounts of the protein alpha-synuclein Some researchers believe that overproduction of this protein is involved in the development of multiple system atrophy.
The disease is called multiple system atrophy because its symptoms involve different parts of the body Multiple system atrophy is divided into two forms: Parkinsonian type and Natchem type Determining the form depends on the types of symptoms at the time of diagnosis

Parkinson's form

At this time, the symptoms are similar to the manifestations of Parkinson's disease, such as:
  • muscle stiffness and difficulty in bending the upper and lower limbs
  • slow movements (bradykinesia)
  • Symptoms:
    • Problems with coordination and movement, such as unsteady gait and loss of balance
    • Slurred, slow, or slurred speech (dysarthria)
    • Problems with vision, such as blurred or double vision or impaired eye focus
    • At this time, the patient may lose consciousness The condition is triggered by standing up from a lying or sitting position
    • The patient may develop dangerously high blood pressure while lying down
    • People with multiple system atrophy may have other difficulties with involuntary body movements:
    Dysfunction of urination and defecation

    Constipation

    Sleep problems

    Restless sleep

    Abnormal breathing during the night

    Sexual dysfunction

Problems achieving and maintaining an erection (impotence)

    Loss of sexual desire
