Fractured toe
A broken toe is a common traumatic injury, which usually develops as a result of an object falling on the foot or hitting the toe against a hard object. However, if the fracture is severe—especially when the big toe is involved—you may need a brace or surgery to allow the broken toe to heal adequately. In rare cases, depending on where the fracture is and how severe it is, the finger may become infected and be more vulnerable to osteoarthritis later on.
In most cases, a toe fracture occurs as a result of an object falling on the foot or the toe hitting a hard object.
Symptoms of a broken toe:
- Pain
- Swelling
- Discoloration
When to see a doctor See a doctor if the pain, swelling, and discoloration last more than a few days or if it is broken and bothers you
