Achalasia
Achalasia is a rare disease in which food and liquids from the esophagus are difficult to pass into the stomach. In achalasia, the esophagus loses its ability to push food toward the stomach, and the muscular valve between the stomach and esophagus cannot relax and move food through.
The cause of this problem is damage to the esophageal nerves, which may be autoimmune in nature. Achalasia symptoms are controlled with minimally invasive therapy or surgery
